Chestnut Honey is a dark colored honey with an intense flavor, rich in properties. The chestnut trees that cover our woods allow the bees to give us a strong honey. The smell of chestnut honey recalls the strong scents of the forest, and with its bitter aftertaste it lends itself to pairing with meats, game, aged cheeses.
In Tuscany it is used as a “soothing agent” to treat sore throats and coughs thanks to its antiseptic and tonic properties. Due to the presence of flavonoids and polyphenols, it is a food with antioxidant effects whose use helps concentration.
Chestnut honey tends to remain liquid, due to the strong fructose component. In fact, it slowly crystallizes taking on a dark brown color
Chestnut honey today is one of the main national productions and is widely used in the kitchen, especially on cheeses and in ricotta-based preparations.
The chestnut honey from Andreini beekeeping is produced by bees who have access to the pristine environment of the highest Lucca hills and lends itself to classic or innovative combinations.
